IT Investment Region - Bangalore

The Bangalore IT Investment Region is a 10500 acre area under development about 15 kms from the Bangalore international airport. It covers the Devanahalli- Doddaballapur area near the foothills of the Nandi. It has received the the approval of both the state and the central governments.

Bigger than the Silicon Valley

ITIR is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the history of Karnataka. it is expected to cost Rupees one lakh crores. It will provide employment to 12 lakh people directly and double the number indirectly.

The ITIR will surpass the silicon valley in the US in size and scale. Bangalore is all set to take its position as IT capital of the world by 2020.  Bangalore at present contributes to 30-35% of India's IT exports.

Infrastructure Development

The basic infrastructure of the project like the roads and telecommunication link will be provided by the central government. The state government will provide physical infrastructure facilities like power, water supply, sewage and effluent treatment plants.

Chief minister Siddaramiah has directed KIADB to issue final notification to acquire 2072 acres of land required for the first phase which is likely to be completed by 2020.  ITIR will have IT, ITES, hardware parks, residential township, shopping malls, hospitals, public utilities, administrative units and educational institutions. It will have special economic zones, export oriented zones and free trade zones. It will also have high speed metro link and a mini-airfield. The metro line connectivity will come in the second phase when the government plans to extend the connectivity by 51 kms.

Over 55 multinational IT companies Infosys, Wipro, TCS and Cognizant have shown interest and signed MOU’s

There are 3 million software professionals in the country, out of which one million are in Karnataka. Bangalore has emerged as the centre for startups capital next only to silicon valley in the US. Most of these start ups have have began to operate in cloud computing, data analytics and mobility space.

As the first phase of the project is expected to be completed by 2020. About 2 lakh people will start to work in the region by that time. Most IT companies are expected to move their facilities to this region to reduce travel time to the airport.

Even though the region will  have housing facilities the connectivity to other parts of Bangalore is expected to be a major concern. People may have to travel 60-70 kms in one direction. The only roads available at present are at present the International airport road( NH-7) and NH- 207 which connects Hoskote to Doddaballapur.

This is expected to boost the demand for housing in and around this area. The prices of land will hit the roof.
